Sub-Zero Ice Maker Repair in Bedford, Katonah & Bedford Hills

Built-in ice makers, undercounter ice machines, well-water homes

When a Sub-Zero stops making ice, the cause is usually water, temperature or a setting — and only sometimes the ice maker itself. We test which one before replacing anything, across Bedford, Bedford Hills, Katonah and northern Westchester.

The short answer

Sub-Zero ice maker repair in Bedford typically runs $250–$650; a water inlet valve or supply-line repair runs $180–$350. The $95 diagnostic is credited toward the repair. Call (475) 465-5086 for a same-day or next-morning visit.

Before you book

Is it the ice maker, the water or a setting?

Five things on Sub-Zero's own lists explain a lot of "broken" ice makers. Check them first — it takes two minutes and may save you the visit.

  • The display. On Classic (BI) and Designer (IT, IC, ID) units, one ice-cube icon means the ice maker is on and three cubes mean Max Ice is running. No icon means it is switched off.
  • The bin. On current Classic (CL) and Designer (DET, DEC) units, pulling the ice bin starts a 3-minute delay before the ice maker runs again; Sub-Zero says to switch the ice maker off if the bin will be out for long.
  • Sabbath Mode. It turns the ice maker off and keeps it off — and after a power failure the unit comes back in Sabbath Mode. After a storm outage, this alone explains many empty bins.
  • A flashing cube with no alarm on a Classic (BI) means the water valve stayed open too long and the ice maker shut itself off to prevent a flood. Check the supply, then hold Alarm until CFC (Clear Fault Codes) appears.
  • Patience. Built-in Sub-Zero ice makers harvest about 8 cubes every 2–3 hours — 64 to 96 cubes a day — and stop when the bin is full. Sub-Zero says an empty bin can take 2 days to fill.

Wells, filters, pressure

Well water and the Sub-Zero ice maker

Many homes around Bedford, Katonah and Cross River draw water from a private well, and the ice maker is the first appliance to notice. Sub-Zero specifies the supply pressure by model — either 20–100 psi or 35–120 psi — and does not supply a gauge, so a plumber should confirm it. A well's pressure tank cycles up and down, and a clogged sediment or refrigerator filter on top of that starves the fill valve: the result is small, hollow cubes or none.

Sub-Zero's filters: the twist-in 4204490 (interchangeable with 9030868) fits Classic (BI, CL), Designer (IT, IC, DEC, DET), 648PRO, PRO3650 and PRO4850 models. On Classic (CL) and Designer (DET, DEC) units it is rated for 750 gallons or twelve months — replace it when the indicator shows, when pressure drops, when cubes come out hollow, or every 12 months. After a new filter, Sub-Zero says to discard the first two full bins of ice.

Two installation details we see on older lines: Sub-Zero says self-piercing (saddle) valves must not be used, and a reverse-osmosis system is fine only if the pressure stays steady between 35 and 120 psi, with the internal filter bypassed and no copper line after the RO unit.

Undercounter ice machines

UC-15I and Designer undercounter ice makers

Dedicated ice machines run their own refrigeration and water system, so they have their own maintenance schedule. From Sub-Zero's guides:

When it is the ice maker

What the repair involves, and what it costs

If the water, settings and temperature are right and there is still no ice, we test the fill valve, the ice maker module and its harness, and the freezer temperature at the ice maker. In Bedford the typical bands are: ice maker repair $250–$650; water inlet valve or water line $180–$350; control board $400–$850. The $95 diagnostic is credited, and you get the price before any part goes in.

A UC-15I that runs but makes thin ice or none is often a scale problem on well water rather than a failed part — a proper clean and sanitize comes first. Out-of-warranty Scotsman and U-Line machines follow the same logic; see our Scotsman and U-Line pages.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Sub-Zero making small or hollow ice cubes?

Usually not enough water reaches the fill valve: a clogged filter, low or cycling well pressure, or a kinked line. Sub-Zero lists hollow cubes as a reason to replace the filter. If a new filter does not fix it, the valve or the pressure needs testing ($180–$350 for a valve or line repair).

My ice maker stopped after a power outage. Is it broken?

Often not. Sub-Zero units return to Sabbath Mode after a power failure if they were in it, and Sabbath Mode keeps the ice maker off. On a UC-15I, Auto Delay must be reset after an outage. Check those before you book.

How often should I change the Sub-Zero water filter on well water?

Sub-Zero rates the Classic (CL) and Designer (DET, DEC) filter for 750 gallons or 12 months, and says to change it sooner if pressure drops or cubes turn hollow. Sediment from a well can shorten that, so watch the cubes rather than the calendar.

How much does Sub-Zero ice maker repair cost in Bedford?

Typically $250–$650 for the ice maker itself and $180–$350 for a water valve or line. The $95 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and the price is confirmed before any work.

Do you service undercounter ice machines too?

Yes — Sub-Zero UC-15I and Designer undercounter ice makers, plus Scotsman and U-Line machines. Call (475) 465-5086 with the model number.

“Ice output had dropped to a thin sheet in the tray. He traced it to a weak inlet valve and poor flow through the filter housing, and was straight with me that the Sub-Zero valve was not on his truck. That meant a second visit the following week. Cubes have been right since.”
— Warren D.
“The upper section of our built-in crept up to fifty degrees while the freezer stayed rock solid. Turned out the condenser fan motor had seized and the compartment was heat-soaking. New motor, coils vacuumed out, back to normal by dinner.”
— Dana W., Bedford, NY · June 2026
“Our wine cabinet had been drifting a couple of degrees warmer each week and I only caught it from the display log. The lower thermistor was reading low and the door seal had flattened at one corner. Both replaced, and it has held steady since.”
— Peter F., Katonah, NY · May 2026
“Three cycles to dry one load. He gauged the vent, pulled the pedestal, and found the flex duct crushed flat and packed with lint. Rebuilt that run in rigid pipe. One cycle does it now.”
— Marisol T., Mount Kisco, NY · July 2026
